How much Does Occupational Therapy Cost ?

Occupational therapists, and other private health providers such as psychologists and physiotherapists, may appear to be expensive.  I thought that too when I had to take my own children for physiotherapy, speech therapy and orthotics!

However when I thought about not doing it, I realised that in the long term we would have even bigger and more expensive problems. So I chose the best speech therapist, physiotherapist and orthotist for our needs and was adamant that the children did the exercises and homework, and used the orthotics every time they changed their shoes.

The lesson for me was that;

  • I chose the therapist best qualified in my area of need,

  • I attended the sessions and asked questions if I didn't understand,

  • I supported my kids in doing their homework or exercises (and yes, that included bribes!) and finally

  • We celebrated their changes and improvements.

The best way to find out about costs, rebates and duration of therapy is to ring and speak with Geraldine.  She offers a free 20 minute telephone session with you to discuss what you are looking for from occupational therapy, whether she is the right therapist for you, how it would work in your individual case and what the costs and timings would be.

Intervention requires assessment and typically therapy.  The assessment tells us where we are; the team (of client, family and therapist ) works out where we want to be; and the therapy gets us there. The timings and duration of therapy depend on how far we have to travel to achieve our goal.

An initial assessment includes an individualised evaluation of current functioning with a particular focus on the area of concern from the referral and the identification of strengths.

The length of the therapy session depends on the age and attention skills of the client and even the distance that you may have travelled if you are coming to Halls Head. The time between sessions, and the total number of sessions, is dependent on your goals and the progress made between sessions.
